The village of Castellania is part of the community of the Curone, Grue and Ossona valleys and is surrounded by fertile countryside, woods, meadows and gullies, with panoramic views.
It is divided into three smaller communities: Mossabella, Sant’Alosio and Sant’Andrea.
Historically the territory of Castellania, at present chief town, was built up in the 15th century by the union of many hamlets.

> hamlets: Mossabella, Sant’Alosio, Sant’Andrea
> notable people: Fausto Coppi. He was born in Castellania in1919; four times world champion as well as winner of five editions of Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy) and two editions of Tour de France, Coppi has become the symbol of passion and tenacity. His wins have represented the dream of an entire country looking for redemption after the difficult years of the Second World War. In honour of Fasto Coppi, Castellania hosts the tomb where he is buried together with his brother and the house where he grew up.
There is also an association called ‘Associazione del Campionissimo’ and some museums dedicated to cycling have been locally constructed.
