The village of Montacuto is a mountain Apennine centre.
The territory stretches until the Giarolo peak, amidst woods and pastures. The hamlet ‘Giarolo’ is a renowned, lively summer resort. The Chief town is overlooked by the imposing castle. The present castle and the surrounding buildings were built in the 17th and 18th centuries but a few remains of the former manor house are still visible.

- the anchient parish church consecrated to San Bartolomeo, with a valuable door.
- the oratory of Madonna dei Campi. The first records date back to 1589. Finely decorated, it is enriched by two cycles of frescoes, depicting religious characters.
- the present church has a central plan with an interior in baroque style. It was built between 1760 and 1761. It has been defined a jewel of the local baroque architecture and it is rich in wooden carved furnishings, wrought irons and seventeenth century highchairs.
Mount Giarolo is the most popular mountain in the area surrounding Tortona because of its panoramic position.
The ‘Giarolo Festival’ takes place the first Sunday in August.
